Event description
Robert Ward's guide to solving the SF Housing crisis.

About this Event

To meet current housing demand, it’s estimated San Francisco needs 180K additional housing units, creating a similar density to that of Downtown Manhattan. Even as our population booms, the physical city remains frozen in time. This refusal to plan for growth has caused steep rents, devastating the middle class, & creating an ever-growing homeless population. The resistance to growth is in part a reaction to perceived ugly architecture that seemed to degrade the aesthetic, social, and economic quality of the city. ‘Growth’ can mean destruction & degradation to many local residents. As architects it is our duty to create stakeholder buy-in by crafting a visual & aesthetic argument of growth as beautiful. To this end, my Master's Thesis presents a vision presenting how 180K housing units can be added without impacting the historic city.
