About this event
Right now, the world’s nearly insatiable demand for metal and coal are running up against new challenges as the Earth’s climate shifts and additional attention comes onto the mining industry’s environmental and social impacts. The need to develop more environmentally and socially sustainable practices to extract the resources that make our world run is a challenge not only for the companies running the mines but for neighboring populations, governments, and buyers of minerals.
To explore this challenge, the Denver Council on Foreign Relations’ Young Professionals Committee is hosting a panel of experts to discuss sustainability and the mining industry. We will be paying special attention to how this issue has played out in Colorado, where a long history of mining has led to unique challenges around decommissioned mines, while also examining international solutions to mitigate the costs of extractive industries.
The event will open for networking starting at 5:00 PM with the panel beginning at 6:30. There will be a cash bar, and a food truck on site.
