A Girl and Her Dreams - Auditions

A Girl and Her Dreams is an opportunity for Houston's Young Circus artists to come and audition for a production based mainly around Circus Arts. Students will get the opportunity to learn about everything that goes into creating a circus production and get the chance to perform on a theatrical stage! Along with Circus Arts, we will also be hosting vocal auditions. If your student would like a chance to highlight their singing skills, come by! We will have two major songs that require vocalists.

Dance / Circus Audition Details: Students must come prepared to learn a 45-second-long dance and a 1 - 1/2 minute-long circus routine which will then be performed for our artistic team. Dance and circus experience not required. Dress code: Leggings & T-Shirt

Vocal Audition Details: Students must come prepared with a 1 - 1/2 minute-long song to perform for our artistic team.

A Girl and Her Dreams - Description:

“A Girl (Historia) falls asleep reading her favorite mythology book, which is not unusual for her. Only this time, she wakes to two creatures from that exact book staring at her. They lead her through a mysterious tunnel and at the end of this tunnel lies another world. Historia will then watch and discover many beautiful things in this new world, enjoying her time and meeting new creatures. But when she decides she’s ready to go home, will she be allowed to leave?”

Circus characters:

Historia (Main Character): Historia is a very curious and inspired young girl, constantly reading different types of mythology books and always getting lost in them. When she's stepped into the land of her Dreams, she is amazed, but also weary, could this actually be real after all? Weary because she knows, not all the characters in her books are good. (We are looking for someone 10 years or younger to play this role)

Esa (Supporting Main Character): Esa, is a very mischievous Pixie born from Historia's "Dream". Her and her sister Flynn are constantly playing pranks and are the ones to awaken and bring Historia to this other world. (We are looking for someone 10 years or younger to play this role)

Flynn (Supporting Main Character): Flynn, is the more mature one out of her and her sister Esa. Although she's "more mature" she can still play a few pranks here and there. She is also a Pixie born from Historia's "Dream". (We are looking for someone 10 years or younger to play this role)

Clio (Featured character): Clio is a Phoenix born from Historia's dreams. Clio brings joy and light to this World and is looked up by the many creatures that inhabit it. The phoenix is an immortal bird associated with Greek mythology that cyclically regenerates or is otherwise born again. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by rising from the ashes of its predecessor.

Ker (Featured character): Ker is a Basilisk born of Historia's World. In this world she is the queen of the Basilisks and other dark creatures. She wants Historia to stay in this world, why? (We are looking for someone 10 years or older to play this role)

Mermaids (ensemble): A mermaid is an aquatic creature with the head and upper body of a female human and the tail of a fish. Mermaids are sometimes associated with perilous events such as floods, storms, and shipwrecks. (We are looking for someone 10 years or older to play these roles)

Fairies (ensemble): Fairies are feared as dangerous and powerful beings who were sometimes friendly to humans but could also be cruel or mischievous. Fairies are usually conceived as being characteristically beautiful or handsome. (We are looking for someone 8 years or older to play this role)

Basilisks (ensemble): The basilisk is a small snake, "being not more than twelve inches in length", that is so venomous, it leaves a wide trail of deadly venom in its wake, and its gaze is likewise lethal. (We are looking for someone 7 years or older to play these roles)

Kass' (Felynes) (ensemble): Kass is legendary cat species native to Historia's Dreamland. Kass are exceptionally savvy and very quick with their movements. They enjoy discovering new creatures and playing with them. (We are looking for someone 7 years or older to play these roles)

Alkonosts (Birds) (ensemble): The Alkonost is a mythical creature with the head of a human and the body of a bird. What makes it unique? The Alkonost sings the most enchanting melodies. Those who heard its song let go of everything they had ever known. (We are looking for someone 7 years or older to play these roles)

We will email the Cast List January 16, 2023. If your student is cast, you will receive a link to officially enroll your student in this production!

Production Details:

Rehearsals: We will have a printed rehearsal sheet up at auditions for each parent to look over.
