Description

A Fresh Look @ Facebook: New Features, Tips, and Tricks (one-day workshop for library and literacy staff and volunteers)

So, you are already fairly comfortable using Facebook to stay connected with your patrons and/or friends and family. How can you tweak your library’s Facebook page to put your organization’s best foot forward? Facebook is constantly adding new features, making it sometimes difficult to keep up with the changes.

In this class you will learn new ways to manage a page, master the live video, and navigate through this powerful, ever-expanding, global platform. We will dive into the settings and privacy for Facebook, as well as events, boosting, job publishing, and other tools that make running a page simple. The goal of this class is to have you walk away with a little pep in your step knowing more about the ins and outs of your group’s Facebook page.

Some familiarity with Facebook is expected. Students may enroll in the October 19 section of Facebook 101 if they are newbies to Facebook but want to take this intermediate level class.

We will have ten (10) iPads available in class for hands-on use, though you may also Bring Your Own Device: smartphone and/or tablet, any brand. Computers will also be used to access Facebook features.

Class Prerequisite: 1) Attendees should already have some basic knowledge of Facebook . 2) Attendees should bring their logins and passwords to their Facebook account.

Taylor Meriwether, Hinton Public Library director, local photographer, and avid social media user, will teach the class.

Travel stipend for overnight stay may be available if public library, library system, tribal library or literacy organization is 60 miles or more from ODL. Initial travel stipend paperwork must be returned to ODL before the class date. Contact Doris Dixon to request paperwork via email Doris.Dixon@libraries.ok.gov or phone (405) 522-3217. Stipend will be based on lodging receipt, up to $92. If lodging charges are less than $92, the contract will be written for the actual amount, not $92. Mileage also may be reimbursed at 30 cents/mile if you are paying for your own gas & cannot collect from your library/literacy organization. Stipend contracts will be made out to the library/literacy organization. It will be your responsibility to collect your reimbursement from such organization. No travel stipend contracts will be paid until the class has been attended and photocopied proof of overnight stay (if applicable) has been submitted to the Office of Library Development.

Classes made possible by funding from The Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Oklahoma Department of Libraries.
