What are the rules of “Ecstatic” Dance?

Accepted Answer

3 SIMPLE RULES: 
NO SHOES This allows us to connect more fully with the Ground (socks are OK). If you have a physical condition that you need dance shoes, then OK.
NO WORDS We use Body Language & Sounds instead to make it easier to be in meditation & lastly for the same reason, NO ALCOHOL/SUBSTANCES

Question 2

What will the music be like?

Accepted Answer

The soundscape is provided by professional DJ, Meedon, who will facilitate the journey. Most sets will include a variety of ALL musical genres, sonic wave of all tempos, a full spectrum of emotions. Although ALL music is fair game to express heart/soul, there will be no country, heavy metal, or rap.

What is expected in the space?

Accepted Answer

You are invited to let go of judgements and expectations, and allow yourself to feel your emotions, sensations, body, mind, and spirit. Because this is a safe space for movement and expression, we do request that you follow the rules from the above question.

Question 4

The Journey

Accepted Answer

Some events will include a warm-up  (such as contact improv/group movement) but all events will include
— An opening circle with instructions
— 1 & 1/2 hour (sometimes 2x as long) Ecstatic Dance facilitated journey
— A wind-down period (such as Music/Sound Therapy or Meditation)
— A Closing Circle

Who is invited?

Accepted Answer

We welcome people of all ages/genders/religions/ethnicities.  This is a cross-generational community, so often you will see dancers between the ages of 16 -80 enjoying the space together.  We come together for the joy of moving and dancing.

Question 6

What should I wear or bring?

Accepted Answer

Dress to sweat! Wear clothes that allow your full range of motion. Bring socks if you wish, but no shoes are allowed on the dancefloor.  Always bring a water bottle, and make sure to stay hydrated through the dance! Water/snacks are usually provided for free.  Bring an open mind and curious spirit!

Consent Dancing Together

Accepted Answer

Many Dancers come to dance by themselves in the Group.  Some Dancers also like dancing with others, with or without physical contact.  The next question listed here is a guide to help your experience at Ecstatic Dance.  (There were not enough characters allowed in this answer box)

It is always a good idea to begin by Dancing with Yourself. If you would like to Dance with someone else, please make sure they are able to Give their Consent to Dance with you before Touching them or entering their Field.  If you are not sure, or their eyes are closed, it is a No.
