Event description
Learn about what is at stake for the 2020 Census and get help filling out the Census form on the spot!

About this Event

The 2020 Census is safe, easy, and important. By filling it out, you will help shape the future of NYC for the next decade!

At this community forum, we will provide a brief presentation about the Census and local elected officials will speak about why it is important to complete it. We will have time for questions and answers and you can fill the Census out at the event.

Please reserve your ticket. Space is limited to 150 people.

Why does the Census matter?

Many reasons! $650 billion in federal dollars and the number of Congressional representatives are allocated to the states based on who is counted in the Census. If New York City is undercounted, it means we don't get our fair share of funding for education, housing, healthcare, infrastructure, the arts, and much more.

What questions are in the Census?

The Census asks 10 questions: your name, whether you own or rent, number of people living in the household, race, sex and age of household members, whether you are Latino, and the relationship of each person.

Is the Census safe?

Yes. Your information is protected as confidential, is used only for statistical purposes, and is never shared with other government agencies. The Census does not ask your citizenship status and does not ask your social security number.

How can I fill out the Census?

This time around, it is easier than ever to complete the Census. You have the option of completing it securely online, on the phone, or by mail. Look for instructions in the mail in mid-March.

Sponsored by the Cooper Square Committee, Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES), Congressperson Carolyn Maloney, Senator Brad Hoylman, Assemblyperson Deborah Glick and Councilmember Carlina Rivera.
