Event description

Description

Aurora Perna, a Port Orange resident who attends New Smyrna Beach High School, will celebrate the publication of her first book of poetry. Ms. Perna has been a participant in the Volusia County Poet Laureate Dr. David B. Axelrod's Young Poets Mentoring Program. The result is a chapbook entitled Keep Running, published and paid for by Writers Ink Press with contributions to Creative Happiness Institute. Come out to support writing and literacy, young writers and cultural enrichment. Your attendance at these free events supports and encourages all the arts. Buy a book and proceeds go to the author's own college fund. To donate to the program or get more information, go to www.creativehappiness.org and click on the young poets' link.

In addition to Aurora's book parties, Creative Happiness Institute (CHI) will launch its fall season with two other cultural activities. The art of Barry Kite and Steven Chayt will inspire creative writing performed at a poetry reading cosponsored by CHI at the Ormond Art Museum, 5 to 6:30 p.m. on October 2. CHI’s 10th Anniversary Celebration will be at 316 Main Street Station, Daytona Beach, 1-5 p.m., with 2 bands--Tribucon and Midnight Drive-In; an open mic contest, refreshments and hourly features. Attendance at all events is free, but some preregistration and fees are required for some levels of participation. For more information, go to www.creativehappiness.org or email axelrod@creativehappiness.org, or call Dr. Axelrod at 386-337-4567.
