A Festival of Lessons
& Carols for Christmas

Sunday, December 17, 5:00pm
Emmanuel Episcopal Parish

For the fifth consecutive year, The Scholars of St. Cecilia, Mountainside Baroque’s resident chamber choir, will “ring in” the Christmas season with an their annual “Festival of Lessons and Carols” featuring seasonal music, traditional carols and readings by local clergy and officials at Emmanuel Episcopal Parish. Though the Festival of Lessons and Carols derives from Anglican roots, it has become a beloved seasonal celebration in the wider religious community. In recognition of these common values, and the diversity of churches in the Tri-State area, Sunday's ecumenical event will include clergy from the Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Episcopal, Presbyterian and Methodist traditions, as well as a representative of the Cumberland City Council. The event is free and open to the public, though a free-will offering will be received.

Mountainside Baroque brings the engaging music of earlier eras to Cumberland, Maryland, and the surrounding region, featuring performances by world-class musicians from across the country. One of the hallmarks of Mountainside Baroque concerts is a consistent commitment to historically informed performance and the use of reproductions of instruments of the time, including lute, theorbo, Baroque triple harp, viola da gamba, harpsichord, and Baroque violin, viola and cello.
