About this event

Dr. John Ruoff, a voting and redistricting expert and principal of The Ruoff Group, will instruct and guide those attending about a variety of issues surrounding election methods. Our primary goal is to offer more familiarity about alternative voting methods that may increase citizen access to voting and provide a more democratic and/or efficient election process.

We plan to focus on:

  • general background on how one person/one vote principles are affected by voting structure
  • the proposed change of Charleston County School Board to single member districts
  • the possibility of changing the Mt Pleasant Town Council's (and potentially other communities) election system from at-large to single member districts or possibly a blended model

We will also have an opportunity to talk about redistricting reform and answer other questions on election methods, including ranked choice voting.

The meeting is limited in the number of attendees. However, the League hopes the information gained through consultation with Dr. Ruoff will better prepare those attending to support future public information opportunities and forums.
