The Nobel Laureate, Prof Dr Hiroshi Amano, will share his journey to lighting up the world with LED lights and the different applications of blue lights, from water sterilisation and preventing near sightedness, to reducing electrical consumption in households.

Professor Hiroshi Amano is one of the most prominent Japanese physicists and inventors working with semiconductor technologies; he won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2014 alongside Isamu Akasaki and Shuji Nakamura for “the invention of efficient blue light-emitting diodes which has enabled bright and energy-saving white light sources”.

Prof Amano will discuss in the lecture the current research and developments he is making in the “Internet of Energy”. A field of research closely connected to the “Internet of Things” and essentially vital to achieving communication and energy transmission wirelessly.
