Event description

Description

A Different Lens: Film screenings that explore the varied lives, stories and artistic expression of disabled people.

The headliner for our first event is the documentary Heavy Load. Directed by Jerry Rothwell, it follows the punk band of the film’s title as they continually smash barriers through their infectious rock music. The work also charts the beginnings of Stay Up Late, a charity which ensures that people with learning disabilities can enjoy evenings out without leaving early because of support workers rotas. We are privileged to announce that Stay Up Late’s director, and Heavy Load band member, Paul Richards will be joining us alongside Jerry Rothwell to talk about the film and its legacy. There will also be time for networking after the screenings.

Doors open at 18:30. Event starts at 19:00
Suitable for young adults (12+)
In association with the University of Brighton’s Disability Research Network
This event is supported by Scope.
