Event description

Description

Perhaps the most significant issue in the last 30 years for the Protest Church is the role of social justice in the Christian Worldview. Is "social justice" a demand of the Gospel? Is it close to the Gospel itself? Or is Christian charity a function of intra-community life rather than a society-wide understanding of justice? What are the past grievances that have come from the Church's inability to address justice and how does that translate to how "woke" we should be today? Just what exactly are the biblical paremeters for understanding justice? Do more modern understandings of socialism resemble early/biblical Christianity? Are homosexuality and environmentalism the kinds of social justice issues that demand the Christian's attention and action? Well, as you can see, its a big topic.

As the debate rages over just how "woke" Christians should be in the name of Jesus, or whether or not this paradigm is in fact poison to the Gospel itself, might a moderated conversation between two thoughtful Christians be of help? Adam Taylor, Executive Director of Sojourners (sojo.net) - perhaps the longest-standing advocacy arm for Christian understandings of social justice - will be in dialogue with Dr. Joel McDurmon, a theonomist whose understanding of Old Testament biblical law has great bearing on this question. Expect some agreement and some disagreement. Where the line is biblically is what is up for debate.

The event is $10 and it will be free for all high school and college students.
