The Ventura College Professional Development Advisory Workgroup is pleased to announce the latest in a series of equity-themed and culturally responsive workshops: A Day of Community Building and Conversation About Equity and Conflict. Come for the day or choose a session or sessions that fit your schedule and interests. Please register as continental breakfast and a full lunch will be served. Thank you!

Agenda:

Registration and Light Breakfast (8:00 - 8:30 am)

Session 1: Building Community on Campus (8:30 – 10:30 am)

Learn and practice skills needed to engage with community, strengthen and expand it, and make important contributions.

Session 2: Reframing Conflicts: Strengthening Interpersonal Relationships through Restorative Conversations (10:45 am – 12:45 pm)

Through the restorative process, we will transform conflict into an opportunity for empathy, accountability, and equity.

Lunch (12:45 - 1:45 pm)

Session 3: Cultivating a Culture of Respect: Building Equitable Relationships (1:45 – 3:45 pm)

Re-storying the narrative to heal the harm caused by workplace bullying.

Presenter Biographies:

JESSALYN NASH

Jessalyn Nash, an author, consultant and international trainer in restorative justice and trauma-informed work, has assisted legal and educational institutions in implementing transformative processes for over twenty years. She led a national restorative justice initiative and taught courses on conflict resolution and restorative justice at Sonoma State University and Empire Law School. Ms. Nash’s clients include UNICEF, the National Park Service, and Ventura Office of Education.

RICKY ROBERTSON

Ricky Robertson is an educator, author, and consultant who assists educational institutions in developing culturally-responsive, trauma-informed systems of support and Restorative Practices. He is the co-author of the recently published book, “Building Resilience in Students Impacted by Adverse Childhood Experiences: A Whole-Staff Approach.” In a field that is highly susceptible to burn out and compassion fatigue, Ricky has helped schools and colleges move beyond coping with adversity to growing, healing, and thriving.
