Cyanotype Workshop - Preserving Memories: What Does Home Mean to You?
In the Vietnamese culture, màu xanh, the color blue, means tranquility, hope, growth, and calm domesticity and simple pleasures.
As we continue sheltering in our homes to mitigate the pandemic, why not make art and share memories together?
Teaching Artists: Binh Danh and Trinh Mai
- Participants will learn how to use the sun, objects, and written words to imprint images onto fabric.
- This Cyanotype workshop will foster conversations among your family members through collecting heirlooms and mementos.
- We invite you and your family to participate in a fun, virtual art-making workshop.
- Fifteen (15) Vietnamese families in San Jose will become participants in this workshop.
- All participants must reside in Santa Clara County.
What You Need to do to Prepare for the Workshop?
1. Register and provide your mailing address. All art supplies will be mailed to your home prior to the class on August 29 from 1:00 - 2:30 pm.
2. Confirm you know how to use Zoom or need help setting up Zoom, a virtual video conference platform, and we will assist you in this process prior to the event.
3. Gather mementos and heirlooms and have them ready prior to the workshop.
Additional Information:
The workshop will be held in Vietnamese,and English.
- You will be able to ask questions and relax in the comfort of your own home while learning about Asian art and culture.
- Space is limited RSVP soon!
- An email will be sent to all participants with a link to join the lecture 2 days before and 2 hours before the lecture begins.
- Once the workshop is completed, we would like to borrow a few of your finished artworks as they may be selected to be on exhibit at San Jose City Hall in 2021. A prepaid return envelope will be provided.

Hidden Heritages: San José’s Vietnamese Legacy is a two-year partnership between the San José Museum of Art, Chopsticks Alley, and the City of San José Office of Cultural Affairs that brings Vietnamese artists and community members together to share, amplify, and artistically present stories that reveal the contributions of Vietnamese Americans to San José.
Hidden Heritages: San José’s Vietnamese Legacy, Ẩn Giấu: Di Sản Việt tại San José, là dự án hợp tác trong vòng hai năm giữa San José Museum of Art, Chopsticks Alley, và City of San José Office of Cultural Affairs để hội tụ các nghệ sĩ Việt Nam với những thành viên trong cộng đồng lại gần với nhau nhằm mục đích chia sẻ, công bố rộng rải và trình bày một cách nghệ thuật những câu chuyện để làm sáng tỏ các đóng góp của người Mỹ gốc Việt tại San José, một trong những thành phố đa dạng nhất của California.
