Event description

Description

A typical New York City household produces 11 pounds of organic material every week. When we dump organic waste into trash, we not only contribute to landfill and the consequential environmental impact, but we miss the opportunity to turn a valuable resource into nutrients for soil.

In this workshop, we will take a look at the science behind composting, how different systems work to turn organic waste into valuable soil food, and how you can reduce food waste and save fertilizer cost all at the same time through composting in the backyard or your apartment. After the crash course in composting, we will take a tour of NYC Parks’s demo composting stations and its flourish green roof.
