Event description
How can we raise lifelong learners? What is delight-led learning? What role does Classical Education play in the 21st century?

About this Event

Please join us for an evening with author and educator Susan Wise Bauer as she considers answers to these pressing questions and describes the joy of classical learning. With publications from The Well Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home to the popular and comprehensive history series, The Story of the World, Mrs. Wise Bauer will unpack the distinctives of a Classical education and share how it can benefit students throughout their entire lives.

After the talk, stay to enjoy a time of dessert and Q&A with Susan Wise Bauer.

We look forward to seeing you.

Susan Wise Bauer is a writer, historian, educator, and farmer.

Susan’s work, which encompasses world history, the history of American religion, and the current state of American education, is characterized by keen attention to the chronological development of ideas. Her interests tend to be grounded in her own unconventional upbringing; her parents taught her at home on the family farm for most of elementary and middle school, and all of high school. (This involved five years of Latin.)

In education, she has a particular passion for the proper teaching for writing and grammar. Her curricula materials, published by Well-Trained Mind Press, include the four-year series Grammar for the Well-Trained Mind: A Complete Course for Young Writers, Aspiring Rhetoricians, and Anyone Else Who Needs to Understand How English Works; the four-volume elementary composition series Writing With Ease; and the three-volume pre-rhetoric composition program Writing With Skill.

She is also deeply invested in the teaching of world (not just American, or even Western, history) to children, a passion which has produced the four-volume world history series The Story of the World: History for the Classical Child. Over 1 million copies of this series have been sold.

In between her hours writing in her restored chicken shed, Susan also runs three companies (the Well-Trained Mind Press, the Well-Trained Mind Academy, and Peace Hill Farm, her fiber-sheep and Angora goat enterprise), trains draft horses, tends an extensive peach and apple orchard, reads, and cooks.
