Please support the life changing services of OKC Metro Alliance and it's programs the Public Inebriate Alternative and Firstep. Improved access to substance abuse recovery and treatment service will be supported through your donation.

Did you know that “alcoholism is the third leading lifestyle-related cause of death” in the United States, coming after tobacco and unhealthy diets and/or lack of exercise? A person who succumbs to excessive alcohol use loses a potential of 30 years of potential life, and as many as 40 percent of all the hospital beds across the country are used to treat health conditions that develop from alcoholism.

The epidemic is such that as many as 17 percent of men in the general population and 8 percent of women will meet the criteria for alcoholism in their lifetime.

This small and elegant luncheon will feature provide close and personal experience with our speaker Steve Ford. Parking is included in the registration price.

The luncheon will also honor community advocate and leader in the field of substance abuse, Barbara Young.

Through our event sponsor, Anne & Henry Zarrow School of Social Work at the University of Oklahoma, 1.5 Social Work Oklahoma CEUS are available for social work professionals.

Ford’s background in the addiction and recovery community began back in the late 1970’s when his family personally felt the impact of addiction. Steve’s mother, Betty Ford was in the middle of her own personal struggle with addiction that pulled at the entire family. The former First Lady went through an intervention led by her husband and children at a time when addiction was a closet disease. That successful intervention changed the face of addiction after his mother shared her journey of recovery, hope and transformation with the public. Mrs. Ford went on to found the Betty Ford Center.

During the last 17 years Steve has shared his story of recovery and hope with thousands of people in hundreds of different venues. He has spoken to over 75,000 young people all the way from middle schools up to university settings. He has presented the human side of this disease through his talks at professional conferences, prisons, juvenile detention facilities, halfway houses and schools.

Steve has also been an accomplished actor for over twenty-five years appearing in more then 25 major motion pictures such as the hit TRANSFORMERS, BLACK HAWK DOWN, CONACT with Jody Foster, ARMAGEDDON with Bruce Willis, ERASER, STARSHIP TROOPERS and also playing Meg Ryan’s boyfriend in WHEN HARRY MET SALLY. Steve has also appeared in hundreds of T.V. shows such as JAG, SUDDENLY SUSAN, WALKER TEXAS RANGER plus spending 7 years on the CBS daytime Emmy winning show THE YOUNG AND RESTLESS.

Steve will offer the lessons he learned first as the son of a President and also as a successful actor in Hollywood.
