Turner, D-Houston, represents House District 139 and was first elected in 1988. He is the vice chairman of the Appropriations Committee and chairman of the Subcommittee on Articles I, IV & V. He also sits on the State Affairs Committee. He previously served on the Business and Industry, State Affairs and Criminal Justice Legislative Oversight committees and serves as the chairman of the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and co-chairman of the Harris County Legislative Delegation. He is running for mayor of Houston.
