Event description

Join us online to meet prize-winning author Jean Ciborowski Fahey in conversation with New York Times columnist and noted pediatrician and author Perri Klass, M.D.

Jean Ciborowski Fahey is the recently announced winner of the Early Childhood Book Challenge, a global competition to write a new and engaging children’s book with embedded lessons for adults on how to support early language development.

Perri Klass, M.D. is Professor of Journalism and Pediatrics at New York University. As a New York Times contributor, Dr. Klass writes about children, parents, health, and literacy for her column “The Checkup.” She is also National Medical Director of Reach Out and Read, a national literacy organization that helps doctors and nurses to promote reading and conversation with young children.

Early in 2019, OpenIDEO, a firm specializing in collective problem solving through innovation challenges, launched the Early Childhood Book Challenge to stimulate the creation of a new type of children’s story: one that engages children ages 0 to 3 while helping adults enact the best ways to support early language development. Jean Ciborowski Fahey’s story I’ll Build You a Bookcase was chosen by a Selection Committee from more than 500 submissions from across the United States and around the world.

Dr. Klass will interview the author about the development of her new children’s book, the role of children’s books and reading in language development, and the crucial role of parents and caregivers in early literacy and learning.

Sign up to join us on August 13 at 1pm ET/10am PT. Log-in information will be shared with registered attendees.
