Event description

Description

A Conversation at The Promenade is an original one-act chamber opera with music and text written by composer Ian Ng.

Synopsis

This intimate opera takes place on a promenade at sunset, where two complete strangers share a brief encounter that changes them subtly but distinctly. The work focuses on close relationships: the relationship between two people, the relationship between thoughts and feelings, and the relationship between music and words.

Enchanted by the light of the setting sun, we witness how our characters’ emotional layers are slowly stripped away as the story unfolds. Their subtle psychological changes are Illuminated by various compositional devices that reveal the true meaning behind their words. It is a fun, delightful little gem that comments on the resonance of human interaction.

This hour-long work will be performed by mezzo-soprano Evanna Lai, baritone Timothy Renner, and pianist Dimitri Dover.
