About this Event

This event is designed to address African American Mental health on the 400th year anniversary since slavery. It will address the real issues and generational impact of trauma, the role of the church, developing culturally sustaining practices, professional obligations and more. It will provide tools to navigate systems and strategies for effective treatment options.

Sharing Hope is designed to address the lack of information and misconceptions surrounding mental health issues prevent many members of the African American community from getting the help and support they need. This event will increase mental health awareness in the African American communities by addressing a number of important topics:

  • The signs and symptoms of mental health conditions.
  • How to talk about mental health and decrease stigma
  • An overview of recovery and how it’s possible
  • The types of mental health services and community resources available, including NAMI education and support programs.
