This course introduces mental health clinicians to the essential concepts and practices for incorporating mindfulness into their practice. Participants will develop their clinical skills by cultivating presence, attuning and supporting their client’s with meeting the moment from a space of curiosity, care and kindness.
This 3-hour course provides a comprehensive introduction to key concepts and techniques of mindfulness meditation including: definition of mindfulness, benefits of mindfulness, exposure to Mindfulness practices (mindful breathing, body scan, etc.), launching a mindfulness group, ways to incorporate mindfulness in individual sessions.
3 CEs available to NYS LMHCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, LMSWs, LCATs, NYS Licensed Psychologists, and NYS Licensed Psychoanalysts provided by Hudson Valley Professional Development, LLC upon successful completion of training.
Objectives:
Upon completion of the training participants will be able to:
-define mindfulness.
-identify the evidence-based beneficial effects of mindfulness meditation.
-experience practices that support the development of mindfulness to reduce mental suffering and emotional anguish.
-learn mindfulness techniques to incorporate into clinical practice that supports clients and practitioner wellness.
In accordance with the NY State Department of Education guidelines, in order to receive continuing education contact hours, a participant needs to be present for the duration of the workshop/training. Therefore, participants who arrive late or leave the event early will not be granted a certificate of completion.

Rev. Julie Novas, JD, LCSW (they/she) is a Black Indigenous, Latine, non-binary person, ordained interfaith minister, holistic liberation-based psychotherapist, attorney, adjunct assistant professor, meditation teacher, 200hr yoga instructor, Reiki teacher and executive coach.
Julie earned a Bachelor of Science from NYU, a Master of Social Work from SUNY Stony Brook as a Distinguished Dr. W. Burghardt Turner Fellow, and a law degree from CUNY School of Law with a focus on community and economic development. For many years she served as a facilitator at the People’s Institute for Popular Education at the Brecht Forum in NYC. In 2015, Julie was recognized by NASW-NYC as an Emerging Leader for her advocacy and social justice work and in 2017 she completed the two-year Community Dharma Leaders program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, empowering them to offer insight meditation & mindfulness in the Vipassana tradition. Julie incorporates earth-based spirituality, popular education, insight meditation and evidence-based strategies to support internal and external liberation.
Clinically speaking she is certified in DBT, trained in EMDR, Emotional Release work, is IFS informed and began Somatics training in the spring of 2024. Their greatest wish is that all beings be free of suffering, its causes, and conditions.
