Event description
Please join us to celebrate the great work of the East Asian Legal Studies program and Associate Director Chih-Yu Wu's retirement.

About this Event

After 42 wonderful years, our East Asian Legal Studies program came to a close at the end of the 2018-2019 school year. Join us to celebrate the important contributions this program and all of its supporters have made to East Asian legal scholarship and discourse.

About the Program

Established by Dr. Hungdah Chiu in 1977, the program was dedicated to providing a forum for members of the legal community to present their findings and views relating to East Asian legal issues.

The program published over 240 titles related to contemporary East Asian studies, including 231 issues of the Maryland Series in Contemporary Asian Studies, 12 titles in the Maryland Studies in East Asian Law and Politics Series, and 22 volumes of Chinese (Taiwan) Yearbook of International Law and Affairs. This extensive collection of scholarship will remain available indefinitely through Maryland Carey Law’s Thurgood Marshall Law Library.

The success of the East Asian Legal Studies Program would not have been possible without the vision of Professor Hungdah Chiu and the dedication of Associate Director Chih-Yu Wu, Professor Michael Van Alstine, Professor Peter Danchin, and the many scholars, donors, friends and students who supported the program over the years.
