A celebration of life for Dean Tiburcio Alegado

About this Event

Dean passed away in Kāneʻohe on November 6, 2020. Born in San Narcisco, Zambales in the Philippines, he grew up in the Bay Area and graduated from UC Berkeley. He received his Masterʻs degree from the Goddard College and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa. Dean was a Professor of Ethnic Studies at the University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa and retired in 2007 after serving as Chair of the department. Active in the Filipino community, Dean was a key community leader in the anti-Marcos movement in Hawaiʻi and later served as statewide chair of the Philippine Centennial Committee of Hawaiʻi in 2006.

He is survived by wife Emerita, three daughters Rosanna Alegado (Raymond Kong), Kalanui Alegado, Abegail Cabuco, and seven grandchildren.

Dean lived his life with determination, strength, courage, grace, and humility in order to bring social progress, peace, and justice to our communities.
