Be captivated by the talents of clarinetist Igor Begelman and his friends as they perform a variety of music from notable composers including George Gershwin, Carole King, and Irvin Berlin. After the performance, there will be a meet and greet opportunity to chat with the artists. This event is made possible through sponsorship and community support from partners including John Knox Presbyterian Church and the Metropolitan Arts Council. This event is brought to the community as a fundraising event of the Greenville Jewish Federation. All proceeds go to further Jewish programming and education in the Upstate community. 

 

Artist Bios

Igor Begelman, Clarinet

Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient Igor Begelman’s virtuosity and imagination on his instrument have been praised by critics as "remarkable display of music-making" and have earned him an impressive list of prizes, engagements, and honors. Raised in Kiev, Ukraine, Igor Begelman came to the United States in 1989. He received his education from The Manhattan School of Music, The Juilliard School, and the CUNY Graduate Center. Mr. Begelman is currently artist-in-residence at the Peace Center in Greenville, SC.

In recent seasons Mr. Begelman appeared as a soloist with the I Musici de Montreal, Houston Symphony, Orchestra of St. Luke's, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Boston Classical Orchestra, L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Sinfonia Celestis, Astral and Chappaqua Chamber Orchestras as well as in recitals at Philadelphia's Kimmel Center, New York's Merkin Hall and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie, Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, 92nd Street Y, Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach, Boston's Faneuil Hall, LA's Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, at Caramoor and Ravinia Festivals. Mr. Begelman has also soloed with the Bangor, Key West, Fairbanks and Ridgefield Symphonies, Bienne Symphony Orchestra, Odense Simfoniker, New Haven, Savannah and Greenwich Symphonies. He has performed recitals in Western and Eastern Europe, Canada, Mexico, Japan, and Israel.

An active educator, Mr. Begelman has served as a professor of Clarinet at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and as the Director of Woodwind Program at the Bowdoin International Music Festival. He also taught at Brooklyn College and Sarah Lawrence College and guest lectured at Yale, Juilliard and Manhattan School of Music in addition to many master classes throughout the US. His affiliation with the Piatigorsky Foundation allows him to perform and teach classical music in less traditional settings.

Lisa Kiser, Piano

A vivid soloist and chamber musician, Lisa Won Jung Kiser performs with flair and fire and stunning technical control. She has performed across the Southeast, Italy, and her native South Korea. She is the Beth Marr Lee Endowed Chair Principal Keyboardist of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra and is regularly featured in the Spotlight Chamber Music Series with principal players. Lisa Kiser began her studies at age four under the tutelage of her mother, also a pianist. She made her orchestral debut at ten years old in Daegu, South Korea, performing Chopin’s First Piano Concerto. She attended Yonsei University. As a teacher, her students have consistently won state and national competitions and received admission to conservatories and colleges such as Princeton University. Lisa Kiser

 

Eve Begelman, Voice

Special guest, Eve Begelman's vocal performances have been praised as "effortlessly soul soaring" by critics. She has garnered a range of prizes and solo appearances as a vocalist, actor, and violinist. As a scholar in the 92nd Street Y Recanati- Kaplan program for voice, Eve appeared as a soloist with the Orchestra of St. Lukes in a New York premiere of Maximus Musicus and as a guest soloist with the Christian McBride Trio. During her time as a member of the Manhattan Girls Chorus, she performed at Carnegie Hall with Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic. In May 2019, Eve was selected to perform on the Rising Stars Piccolo Spoleto Festival and at the Peace Interludes Series at the Peace Center. A sophomore at the Fine Arts Center and Wade Hampton High School, Eve is a recurring soloist at the Peace Center, Live and Local jazz all-stars series.
