Event description

Description

The Boychoir of Ann Arbor, led by Music Director, Dr. John Boonenberg, proudly presents the 33rd annual performances of "A Boychoir Christmas" featuring the unique and glorious sound of this outstanding choir singing beloved and modern classics of the choral Christmas repertoire. Award-winning organist Dr. Naki Sung-Kripfgans will accompany “A Boychoir Christmas.”

The traditional processional hymn "Once in royal David's city," with soaring boy soprano solo, and a breathtakingly beautiful setting by Paul Mealor of the popular Christina Rossetti poem, “In the Bleak Mid-Winter” are sure to get you in the Christmas spirit.

This year’s concert features a classic multi-movement work for trebles and harp—John Rutter’s “Dancing Day.” This rousing and magical setting of several traditional carols will highlight the distinctive clear and pure boychoir tone of the Treble Choir, joined by harpist Bethany Lancaster.

“Caroling, caroling,” by Alfred Burt, will continue the yearly Boychoir tradition of honoring Ann Arbor’s musical history connections with a Burt Family Carol. Other selections include David Conte’s brilliant “A Stable Lamp is Lighted,” a new premier by Louisiana-based composer William Horne using the traditional text “While Shepherds Watched,” and a fun and raucous setting by Mack Wilberg of “The 12 Days of Christmas”—you might even see some special guests!

Traditional hymns with audience participation will include "Hark! the herald angels sing", and "O come, all ye faithful.” John Gardner's setting of "Tomorrow shall be my dancing day,” which has been sung at every performance of "A Boychoir Christmas" for over 30 years, will once again close the performance.

The Boychoir of Ann Arbor is non-profit organization offering choral music opportunities for boys who like to sing and presenting wonderful choral performances for our communities.
