Marcus has been professionally working in the performing arts since receiving his B.A. in Theatre Arts from CSU, Chico. With representation from Marla Dell Talent in SF, he has performed in commercials, industrials, and films including, Unflinching Triumph, which was an improvised film hailed by the Wall Street Journal to be, “the top five of what to watch on the web.”
Sams has performed with Leela since 2004 and has studied with David Razowsky, Susan Messing, Joe Bill, Mark Sutton and other master teachers across the country. He has taught and performed nationally, including multiple performances at the San Francisco Improv Festival. He currently performs with his duo Shades of Grey, with Leela’s Armando Company and guest performs with companies all around the Bay Area. He co-produced/co-created the sold-out improvised sitcom, Future Style ’79, and was also a member of the critically acclaimed improv group, Oui Be Negroes.
He currently teaches level 5 improv with Leela, level 2 improv with Endgames Improv and the occasional master class. Sams also performs in stage plays and is a producer with Crux Jinx Productions. Under this label he is actively creating community enrichment events such as, “A Bay Area Film Mixer”, and is currently in pre-production (producing and acting) for the feature film entitled Ra.
When Marcus is not following his passions in the arts, he works as an IT consultant and lives in the East Bay with his awesome fiancé. He believes that improv is theatre and that it can have all the cathartic elements of scripted theatre when the commitment to craft is pursued vigorously. He encourages all humans to invest time in improv because it not only makes you a better human, it also offers you a world of possibilities that all stem from you saying yes to the world around you with compassion.
