The Olean Barbershop Chorus is pleased to announce its second annual "Friends and Family Christmas" show, to be presented on Saturday, December 17th at 7:00 p.m. in the beautifully renovated Palmer Opera House, Main Street, Cuba, NY.
"We were a little bit shy in our first Christmas show" commented Eva Hillman, who has directed the chorus for three years. "We realized that our families had very few opportunities to hear the Christmas program, so the men decided to host a show for the entire community." We had a great time in a fantastic setting which really fits our unique style. We're eagerly planning this year's program, which will feature a number of well-loved seasonal favorites, as well as some familiar tunes and surprises." While the concert is free to the public, refreshments will be available and a free-will donation will go to continued renovation and care of the Palmer Opera House.
The chorus hosts a "ChristmaSing" program each year, inviting men from the area to join us for a time of comradery and song as we prepare for our annual Christmas programs. There is no obligation, and men of all ages, voices and abilities are truly welcome with our chorus. The men really enjoy singing together, and provide music to at least six area nursing care facilities each December, in addition to the Friends and Family show.
The Olean Barbershop Chorus is an a cappella chorus made up of men from around the area (Friendship to Franklinville, Belfast to Bradford, Hinsdale and Olean, and many points in between.) The chorus recently celebrated its 70th consecutive annual show, a program dedicated to celebrating music in the barbershop style, with a goal to further the influence of barbershop singing and service through song.
The Olean Barbershop Chorus rehearses on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the ground floor of Trinity United Methodist Church, North 9th Street, Olean.
