Classic vs. Modern Drum Solo - Perhaps the oldest and most recognizable aspect of the bellydance diaspora, the drum solo has evolved over the years like the art form itself. The technique workshop will explore elements of the classic drum solo such as diverse hip articulation and repeating patterns versus modern techniques such as unique body isolations and international flairs. The choreography workshop will teach a mixed-level drum solo dance to an original composition designed to introduce commonly used rhythms in Egyptian raqs sharqi. Workshop participants will have the option to perform the dance in the Grand Finale in that evening's showcase.

We’ll put items from the morning workshop all together in a choreography for a collective group of dancers* to join together for a one-time performance. Attendees of the afternoon's workshops will be invited to create this group number using the choreography as the Grand Finale of the Fusion Showcase. Performing the grand finale is an amazing experience! We hope many of you can participate and contribute to that wonderful synergy at this year's event. *Performance is optional. **Please feel welcome to learn the choreography and opt out of the Showcase Grand Finale.
