This year’s Barbara Walker Trails Fair and Symposium will be a chance for learning, sharing ideas and connecting. Moving to more of a symposium framework, the afternoon will offer some unique speakers and sessions that will include:

  • An opening keynote by Chuck Sams, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla, entitled Our First Trails and Restoring Historic Trails of Indigenous Significance

  • A second keynote by Mychal Tetteh, Programs Section Manager at the Portland Bureau of Transportation and former Executive Director of the Community Cycling Center, entitled Urban Connectivity: Environmental Intersectionality and a Shared Imperative

  • A panel of community leaders talking about the connection and disconnection marginalized communities have around participation in our trails systems

There will also be a chance for attendees to briefly talk about some of their successes around equity and inclusion work, so come prepared to share your stories with the larger group.

To celebrate, at the conclusion of the formal program, we will gather at a nearby establishment for a no-host reception and a chance to do additional networking. We hope you all come early, as well, to connect before we begin at 1 pm.

Please bring materials to share with others, as we will have tables for brochures, pamphlets and any other promotional items you’d like to share with everyone.

We are excited to bring our community together for this annual effort.
