The 2030 Agenda makes an unequivocal call to create innovative forms of cooperation among governments, civil society, and the private sector.

While governments have a central role to play in building a more peaceful world, business and civil society must do more to support and scale-up such efforts. By acknowledging the role of the private sector as a partner in sustainable development, and simultaneously connecting sustainable development with peace, the 2030 Agenda provides a tangible link between the private sector and peace.

In partnership with the SDG Fund and Concordia, the International Peace Institute will launch a research paper that focuses on the following questions: What does it mean in practice for the private sector to become a partner for sustainable development and sustaining peace? How can companies reduce the risk associated with investing in countries under stress? What tools can be used to scale-up investments and unlock the resources needed to implement the 2030 Agenda?

This report contributes to ongoing discussions around the repositioning of the UN Development System to deliver on the 2030 Agenda. Two years have already passed since the launch of the 2030 Agenda—the clock is ticking and the world is waiting for action. Forging a strong and effective global partnership between the public and private sector will be pivotal in determining the fate of the Sustainable Development Goals, and in building a more peaceful and inclusive world.
