About this event

Houston currently holds the largest population of Nigerians that live outside of Nigeria. The Nigerian Independence Day organization is a nonprofit organization with the goals of bringing Nigerian Pride and teaching Nigerian culture, history, and heritage during Nigeria’s Independence Day to the diaspora. Friday, October 1st, 2021 will be Nigeria’s 61st year of independence. We will be holding the annual Independence Day family picnic and festival on the following Sunday, October 2, 2021 called NIGERIAN DAY at 11933 Bissonnet st Houston, Tx 77099 from 1pm to 6pm for all ages. THIS THE LARGEST AFRICAN CULTURAL EVENT IN AMERICA!!! This is a free event for the community to celebrate the beautiful culture. Every culture and ethnicity are welcome to come and be entertained and learn about Nigeria. Participants will take part in various activities at the festival to include: an essay contest “Why I love Nigeria,” Educational cultural exhibitions and showcase, Free Nigerian Food tastings, and opportunity to purchase Nigerian meals and delicacies. Nigerian fashion show, a Nigerian Trivia Game Show, Nigerian Dance contest, Soccer tournament, a kid’s zone, face painting, caricatures, and prizes for all ages.

NIGERIAN DAY promotes education to diverse cultures to learn about the Nigerian Culture through the various arts, exhibits, and showcases that will be presented at the event. NIGERIAN DAY will also provide the opportunity for several students to receive scholarships towards their education. This is an event that you do not want to miss. We expect over 2000 people at this Annual Nigerian Independence Day Festival Early arrival is advised!
