About this event

"Connections Between Boston's Wage Gap and Wealth Gap: What This Means for Employers"

Please join the Boston Women’s Workforce Council (BWWC) on Thursday, December 8, 2022, 9:30 - 11:00 AM EST, for the 8th Annual Effective Practices Conference, “Connections Between Boston's Wage Gap and Wealth Gap: What This Means for Employers.”

This timely and salient conversation will explore how gender and racial wage gaps are a primary driver of wealth disparities, affecting the ability to save for a home, retirement and/or education. We are thrilled to announce that this year’s Effective Practices Conference will feature keynote speaker Dr. M. Lee Pelton, CEO and President of the Boston Foundation.

A panel will follow the keynote address exploring how employers can take action today to close the wage gap and, in turn, reduce the wealth gap. We will also highlight insights from the World Economic Forum (WEF) and WTW's gender-based wealth equity research released jointly in WEF's Global Gender Gap Report 2022. The panel will feature:

  • Manjit Basi, Senior Director, Integrated & Global Solutions, WTW; Contributor, World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2022
  • Stephen Denny, Head of Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion, Putnam Investments

Due to limited space, the in-person capacity is 100 attendees.

Breakfast and networking for in-person attendees will begin at 9:00 AM EST.

To attend in-person, please register through Eventbrite.

The Boston Women’s Workforce Council (BWWC) leads a unique public-private partnership between the Mayor’s Office and Boston employers dedicated to eliminating the gender/racial wage gap. We do so by identifying the visible and invisible barriers to women’s advancement and driving action to knock those barriers down.

Our most important work towards this goal is recruiting Greater Boston employers to sign on to the 100% Talent Compact. Through this pledge, Compact Signers are committing to examining their own salary data and practices and making changes where needed.

The BWWC aggregates this information anonymously to create a biennial report on our progress. This data, along with our knowledge of interventions that work, makes the BWWC the “go-to” resource for employers looking to eliminate gender/ racial wage gaps.

It is hard work, but as Bostonians we have never shied away from a challenge. We are only going to eliminate the gender/racial wage gaps with enhanced collaboration, authenticity, and commitment to examination and action. The BWWC model offers just that, and our 100% Talent Compact Signers have heeded the call.
