Event description
Mayor and City of Houston’s Office of Business Opportunity Advisory Board present the 8th Annual Champions of Diversity Awards Ceremony

About this event

Dear Sponsor,

The City of Houston Office of Business Opportunity (OBO) Advisory Board will present the 8th Annual Champions of Diversity Awards Ceremony on Friday, February 11, 2022, in the George Bush Grand Ballroom at the George R. Brown Convention Center, 1001 Avenida de las Americas, Houston, Texas 77010. A festive VIP reception will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program at 6:30 p.m. The theme of this year’s awards ceremony is “Celebrating Equality, Diversity, and Opportunity.” As the ceremony’s Honorary Chair, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, will be the keynote speaker.

The Champions of Diversity Awards Ceremony honors minority, women, small, and disadvantaged business enterprises (MWSDBEs) and non-MWSDBE prime contractors for outstanding performance on City of Houston contracts. City of Houston departments and community partners are also recognized for their efforts to support the mission and purpose of the MWSDBE Program. One of the evening’s highlights is the presentation of the Ernest B. McGowen, Sr. Champion of Diversity Award, a prestigious honor that is bestowed each year upon one individual who epitomizes the mission of the MWSDBE Program.

We are excited to announce that Houston First Corporation and Levy Convention Centers have agreed to be a Presenting Sponsor again this year. We are seeking your company’s support of this event by becoming a sponsor. Sponsorships are important for supporting the OBO’s ongoing programs and initiatives which help to educate, connect, and grow small businesses. Sponsorships also enable us to present this special event at no cost to the honorees and guests. Proceeds from the event support scholarships for college students pursuing degrees in business or entrepreneurship as well as students who are participating in structured workforce development programs. Over the past eight years, the OBO Advisory Board has awarded more than $33,000 in scholarships.

Attached is a Sponsor Benefits Form that outlines the levels of sponsorship. Through our collaboration with Houston Business Development, Inc., a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, your contribution may receive a tax benefit. Please respond with your commitment by no later than Tuesday, January 18, 2022, to ensure you/your organization will be acknowledged in the program.

We greatly appreciate your consideration. Should you have questions or need additional information, please contact Vanessa Vidaurri at 832.831.1836 or via email at vanessa@hilldaypr.com.

Sincerely,

Brandi Harleaux Champions of Diversity Awards Ceremony Event Chair Office of Business Opportunity Advisory Board Chair

Organizer City of Houston Office of Business Opportunity

Organizer of 8th Annual Champions of Diversity Awards Program Sponsorship Opportunities

The City of Houston’s Minority and Women Business Enterprise Program (MWBE) was established in 1984 to stimulate the growth of local minority and women-owned business enterprises by encouraging their participation in all phases of procurement activities. The Program’s enactment afforded MWBEs a full and fair opportunity to compete for all City contracts. Small Business Enterprises and Persons with Disabilities Business Enterprises were later included as a part of the City’s programs to further contracting opportunities for underutilized businesses. To ensure fair competition on the City of Houston and Houston Airport System federally funded contracts, the Program also includes Disadvantaged and Airport Concessionaire Business Enterprises.
