Join us on December 4, 2019 for an event at the Heartwood Charter School resource center

Event Description:

“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.”
― Edith Sitwell

Festivals are a celebration of life. They create a sense of belonging and mark the rhythms of the year. Each festival is a distinctive experience with a unique mood, a social expression reflecting the season. Festivals provide a moment for us to come together as a community, to celebrate the rhythms of the year, and to create magical memories that can last a lifetime. Please join the community of Heartwood for our first festival at our resource center in Northern Petaluma.

As the days grow darker and the wind blows colder, we gather together to celebrate the light that is unique to each one of us. In the words of one of the lantern walk songs, "Each of us is one small light, but together we shine bright!" We ban together to help each other as the darkness draws near and to collectively shine our light into that darkness.

Families are invited to gather together as the sun sets to celebrate the coming of the winter months at Heartwood's Lantern Walk. Students will make their own lanterns and learn some lantern songs to sing while on a meditative walk along a candlelit pathway. We will have hot cider and a light dinner of soup and bread before departing for our walk. Parents are encouraged to join with their children and to help preserve the reverent mood of the evening. This is a beautiful event designed for families to come together as a community and light their inner lights as we head into the darker months of winter.

Warmth, light and the courage to bring our small light into the darkness are some of the themes of this festival, along with kindness and care for one another. The themes of kindness and care are expressed through service. Along with the festival, we will be having a warm sock drive. With the arrival of cold weather, local shelters are often in need of warm socks. If you are able, please bring some warm socks to donate to our sock drive. We want to extend our light and the warmth of our community out to those who are in need.

We hope you will be able to attend this special event and extend an invitation to fellow homeschoolers. This is a celebration of the community!

So carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the lonely, the tired and worn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Cause We are a family whose hearts are blazing
So let's raise our candles and light up the sky
