Event description
The 80th Anniversary of the Food and Nutrition Board

About this Event

The Food and Nutrition Board (FNB) was convened in 1940 in response to a request from the U.S. National Defense Advisory Commission to the National Academy of Sciences for aid in studying problems of nutrition in the U.S. Today the FNB is the focal point for activities of the Health and Medicine Division of the National Academies concerned with food, nutrition, and food safety and their roles in health maintenance and disease prevention. To commemorate its 50th anniversary, the FNB held a symposium that featured the state of the science in areas in which the Board had worked over the years—nutrition and food science, nutrition and food policy, and food safety and technology. Now approaching its 80th year, the FNB has continued to grow and expand its reach both domestically and internationally, providing visionary leadership across a range of nutrition and food science issues toward the improvement of human health. In recognition of its work, a symposium with invited speakers is being held to celebrate the history of the FNB, highlight its accomplishments, and engage participants in future directions for the board. Register to attend in person or by webcast.
