NASIM CONFERENCE SCHEDULE

Our Community. Our Responsibility

“We are addressing life in community, how we are to build up our communities so that our souls will be pleased. The human souls cannot be pleased unless you do what you’re created to do, then your soul will be pleased. But as long as you have not fulfilled to do what you were created to do, or created for, then your soul will not be happy; and you can’t be happy if your soul is empty, sad, in pain or hurting.” Imam W. Deen Mohammed

8:30 – 9:15 Registration

9:30 -11:00 Panel 1- The Community Responsibility in Establishing New Africa

Moderator: Shareef Abdul-Malik

Panelists: Nimat Bilal, Anwar Saleem, Anika Khan, Ismail Qatar, Mujahideen Muhammad

“But seek with the (wealth) which Allah has bestowed on thee the Home of the Hereafter nor forget thy portion in this world: but do thou good as Allah has been good to thee and seek not (occasions for) mischief in the land: for Allah loves not those who do mischief." Qur'an 28:77

…”We don’t have our hopes in money. Money is only a means to an end. We want our families to be comfortable. We want our children to come to have a better condition in this world than we had and we want to finance this religious Community so it will have what it needs: To be a strong and beautiful Muslim community following the Quran and Muhammed’s way of life, under G’D, under G’D alone, that’s what we want. We cannot do it without money. Believers want a religious community that they can feel good about. And just like the poorest one of us like to dress up nicely. We want to dress our community up nicely. We don’t want our schools in a condition to shame us not to mention how it shames the Quran and Muhammed’s way. We don’t want our masjids or centers shaming us. We don’t want our teachers shaming us. We have to bring everything up to pare so that we feel good when we look at it and we can celebrate our accomplishments. To do that, we have to have money. “…

11:00 – 12:30 Panel 2- Intra-faith Building Bridges and Working Together Towards the Good in this Life and the Hereafter

Moderator: Sister Farah Shakour Bridges

Panelist: Ustadah Ieasha Prime, Brother Joshua Salaam, Minister Carlos Muhammad, Imam Abdullah Rasheed

“To each is a goal to which ALLAH turns him; then strive together (as in a race) toward all that is good. Wheresoever you are, ALLAH will bring you together. For ALLAH has power over all things.” 2:148

“Al Islam wants us to see our differences or our diversity but it wants us to see it in the same focus with our unity, it wants us to see unity and diversity in one focus"

“Only our human life in its excellence that ALLAH intended for us can support our differences. When a man is awakened to the value of himself as a human person, his common life that he shares or that he has with all other human beings that man sometimes rises to the top of his society, he becomes the planner, the voice and the one with the vision for the future of is society. And he does not bring in racism, he does not bring in all of these ugly prejudices that we have experienced as people trying to live together on this planet earth, he does not bring in those things. He speaks to the common excellence of humanity and he brings all the people together.” Imam WD Mohammed

“So you see ALLAH has created us to be one family, to register the hurt of all people, to feel their hurt and to not be comfortable in our souls until everybody has a life that is livable.” Imam WD Mohammed, After Difficulty

3:00 – 4:30 Panel 4 Social Justice

Moderator: Muhammad Bashir

Panelist: Judge David Shaheed, Chief Melvin T. Russell Chief of the Community Partnership Division, Baltimore Police Department, Jameel Johnson Associate Vice President, Government Relations NASDAQ, Derrick Chase

O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice as witnesses to ALLAH even as against yourselves or our parents or your kin and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for ALLAH can best protect both. Follow not the lust (of your hearts) lest you swerve and if you distort (justice) or decline to do justice verily ALLAH is well-acquainted with all that you do.”4:135

“…We are all one creation and or belief in One Creator unites us in spite of artificial divisions of race, color and natural origin. We are united by the most powerful bond of all, our common human origin. The real issues that concern us and affect our social and economic destiny and the destiny of our children’s children are vital to all and are more profound than any ideological differences that we may have. Our enemy is not the free world, or the Communist world, or Christianity, Judaism or any other religion. Our enemy is ignorance, racism, oppression, greed, and corruption. To eliminate these enemies, we must establish truth, justice, opportunity and compassion for all people.” Imam WD Mohammed
