Who is this training for?

This training is for adults who have lost a loved one to homicide and want to support others by leading a peer-based support group in their community. You do not need to be a therapist or have mental health training — just lived experience, a commitment to show up, and a willingness to learn.

Is this training online or in person?

This is an in-person training held at our Pittsburgh facility. We believe in the power of connection and shared space. The exact location and schedule will be shared with accepted participants.

Is there a cost to attend?

No. This training is completely free for accepted participants.

Question 4

What is the time commitment?

Accepted Answer

The training is 8 weeks long, with weekly 2-hour sessions in the evening. You must attend all sessions to receive your certificate of completion.

Question 5

What if I can’t attend all 8 weeks?

Full attendance is expected. However, if you miss a week, you may be able to make it up in a future training group. Let us know during the screening process if you have scheduling concerns so we can plan with you.

Are makeup sessions available?

We do not offer one-on-one makeup sessions. But if you miss a week, you may be able to attend that session during a future training group. Please mention any conflicts during screening.

Are language interpreters or accommodations available?

Yes. Center for Victims provides language interpreters upon request, and our training location is accessible to individuals with mobility needs. If you need interpretation or other support to participate fully, let us know during the screening process. We’ll do our best to accommodate you.

What happens after I register?

After you RSVP, someone from Center for Victims will contact you to schedule a brief screening interview. This is a chance to learn more, ask questions, and ensure the training is a good fit.

What happens after I complete the training?

Participants who attend all sessions will receive a Certificate of Completion and a 10-week curriculum they can use to lead a support group. Ongoing support will be available as you begin facilitating.

Can I join if I’m still grieving?

Yes. Grief is a lifelong journey. This training welcomes participants at many stages of healing — as long as you're emotionally ready to support others. The screening process helps determine that together.
