Learn how to effectively market yourself to prospective employers through social media and grow leadership skills at the 7th Annual StudentLIFE Leadership Summit at Oakland Community College (OCC) on Friday, May 6, from 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. at the OCC Auburn Hills Campus.
Participants are exposed to a professional development conference and workshops so that they can gain an edge developing skills and networking decorum that is expected in the workforce. The breakout topics strive to teach relevant topics that the students can not only use in their career paths, but also in their roles on campus and in the community.
The keynote address is presented by Tommy Nugent on “Leadership & Mindfulness,” followed by “Social MEdia – Insights into branding the Digital You” which will discuss all of the major social media outlets, led by Eden Konja, adjunct Information Technology professor at Walsh College.
The afternoon session includes a workshop on LinkedIn by Student Development Coordinator Jessica Lizardi which discusses why college students should start using it now to leverage and stay connected to people they meet and how to build the most effective profile.
Students will also be given the chance to have a professional headshot taken and volunteer to participate with Kathie House, OCC Coordinator of Placement Services & Cooperative Education, in a video-taped speed mock interviews with critique.
The event is open to the public; however, the event is open exclusively to Michigan college students. Please be prepared to show your college ID upon check in.
The registration deadline is Wednesday May 4. To register, click the "Get Tickets" button above. OCC students should also provide their student ID in order to obtain the fee waiver.
