SVAFF recognizes and celebrates the creation and discovery of cinematic art and innovation, and provides the Bay Area community access to the richness, diversity and vitality of Africa’s creative expressions through the lenses of Africa’s seasoned and emerging filmmakers.
The 2016 festival's opening ceremony will begin at 5:30pm on Friday, October 14, with a VIP / Red Carpet reception, followed by a parade of flags of the 26 countries in the festival, live entertainment, a fashion show and the screening of the opening night feature film. The festival continues throughout the weekend with more film screenings, performances, an African marketplace, dialogue with filmmakers in attendance, panel discussions, community forums, food, and a Diaspora Spotlight on Brazil!
When & Where
Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF)
Now in its 7th year and presented by Oriki Theater in partnership with the Community School of Music and Arts and the African Diaspora Network; the Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) is the only film festival in California that is exclusively focused on films made by African filmmakers and, crucially, provides audiences with exquisite lenses to the real Africa. The festival’s mission, thus, aims at promoting finer understanding and greater appreciation of Africa’s rich heritage through moving images. Our annual film festival is held every October and attracts an international following of distinguished transcontinental visitors, corporate executives, cinema buffs, academics, civic officials and diverse community supporters.
