Smart Energy Initiative 7th Annual Energy Briefing

Leaders in the energy field will briefly review fascinating 2018 energy trends, news and events to present an overview of the 2019 energy forecast. This briefing will cover state and national data in the framework of the mid-Atlantic region, including recent energy finance legislation, PA solar energy plan, nuclear energy news, natural gas and alternative fuels. Learn what this means for Southeastern Pennsylvania and how the changes in the energy economy and energy policy may affect businesses.

Presenters Bios:

Christopher Wiederspahn, Vice President, Business Development – Amerex Energy Services
When it comes to deregulated energy procurement, Chris Wiederspahn has been there and done that. Chris is an accomplished and recognized energy professional with a wealth of business and leadership experience that has helped many scores of organizations achieve bottom line results over the past eighteen years through strategic energy procurement and related services. Join us for a high-level overview of electricity and natural gas prices regionally and all across North America. We will look at historical energy and capacity pricing and the recent volatility experienced in several markets, along with some of the regulatory trends impacting both deregulated and regulated prices across the nation. We will also be reviewing the increasing opportunity to integrate renewable power in some unique but familiar ways at prices at or even below the cost of brown power.

Emily Schapira, Executive Director of Philadelphia Energy Authority
Emily Schapira has been the Executive Director of the Philadelphia Energy Authority since 2016 and a member of the board since 2011. Emily joined PEA to develop and execute the Philadelphia Energy Campaign, a $1 billion, 10-year initiative to advance energy efficiency and clean energy across Philadelphia, while creating over 10,000 jobs. In Year 1, the Campaign helped launch more than $53 million of projects created more than 225 jobs. Prior to joining PEA full time, Emily was Director of Global Accounts - Lighting at WESCO Distribution, Chief Operating Officer at Aelux, a national lighting and controls retrofitter, and worked on sustainability for Verizon, Intel, and the Wharton School. Emily has an MBA from The Wharton School of Business and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.

Ed Fortunato, Managing Director of Fundamental Analysis at Constellation Energy, an Exelon Company
Currently the Managing Director of Fundamental Analysis, at Constellation Energy, an Exelon Company, Ed has been with Exelon for over fifteen years. Prior to his current role he has managed the proprietary trading book and the short-term analytics group at Exelon. He has led the implementation of trading strategies in both the prop and hedging books since his arrival. Before Exelon he was a vice president of natural gas trading at Merrill Lynch Global Commodities and was a senior energy trader at Edison Mission Energy. He has an MBA with high honors in finance from Boston University and a BBA from Baruch College.
