Event description
4 Exciting Sessions with Nationally Known Speaker and Genealogy Expert Paul Woodbury — and Over 1,000 Books and Periodicals on sale!

About this Event

OCCGS hosts our 7th Annual Genealogy BASH and Book Faire on Saturday March 7, 2020!

Doors open at 8:00 AM for Registration; Conference begins at 9:00 AM.

Each year we bring in an expert genealogy speaker of national prominence for a day-long BASH conference — this year’s presenter is Paul Woodbury, Research Team Lead for Legacy Tree Genealogists.

Paul Woodbury is a genealogy dynamo! With a Bachelor’s degree focused on Genetics and Biotechnology with a minor in Family History, AND a Master’s degree in Instructional Design and Educational Technology, Paul is at the forefront of the genealogy field. As an aside, he can also name any country and its capital on a map.

In addition to Paul’s four exciting genealogy presentations, we’ll host our 7th Annual Book Faire, with Genealogical Books offered at exceptional prices, and Genealogy-related Exhibitors are available to answer questions. It's a fun day for genealogy enthusiasts!

CLICK HERE for a detailed OCCGS 7th Annual Genealogy BASH and Book Faire Schedule. Paul’s four classes include:

1. “Render Yourself Capable — The House of Joseph Ichante” Trek with us through the French Pyrenees and gain insights for genealogical research from an early 19th century French shepherd, and self-taught philosopher.

2. “Developing a Research Plan” Whether you are just beginning your research or have been researching for years, learn to better plan your efforts through targeted research subjects, questions and objectives.

  • Prioritize research methodologies and document sets based on available starting details of place, time, and historic context.
  • Learn to adjust research plans based on information uncovered during the research process.

3. “Modern Research Methodologies” Genealogists “seek dead people,” but sometimes our efforts intersect with the world of the living or the recently deceased. At times, privacy limitations can complicate our investigation of more recent generations of ancestors. Learn about record availability around the world, as well as some of the record sets and strategies that can help you reconstruct information regarding recent generations of ancestors and living relatives.

4. “DNA Case Studies: Choose Your Own Adventure” DNA is one type of genealogical evidence that must be considered in the context of other document evidence in order to achieve genealogical proof. Choose Your Own Adventure from a series of genetic genealogy case studies and join us as we explore the applications of DNA evidence in varied research contexts.

The BASH is held at the Huntington Beach Central Library and Cultural Center in the 319-seat Library Theater.
