Event description

Description

The 2019 Annual Dialysis symposium will now advance and progress further, to address how providers can identify and then control several “external factor’s” that are not inherent to patients genetic or biochemical make up but which have a larger additive effect on their outcomes. We are planning to educate providers to help their patients make the wisest of choices by reducing such external factors that have a negative impact on their outcomes and promoting those that have a positive impact.

Target Audience

This interprofessional educational activity knowledge, competence and performance of Nephrologists primarily in their decision-making but also to educate other Dialysis Care Providers (Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Nutritionist and Patient Care Technician’s. Renal fellows, residents and patients are also encouraged to attend this symposium.

Objectives

After attending this meeting, participants should be able to:
• select the correct drugs, correct doses and monitor the correct drug levels.
• identify how extra renal metabolism of drugs also changes when renal failure sets in.
• implement new methods to prevent central venous catheter related sepsis.
• know 1-2 strategies to improve systems and processes of care that help prevent infections and monitor antibiotic usage in dialysis facilities.
• use new simple non-invasive technologies such as Ultrasound to diagnose a poorly maturing access early for early intervention.
• implement and setup processes of care, such as scheduled evaluations of AV access within their facility and advice when to cannulate a maturing access timely.
• identify strategies to use to help improve nutrition status and at the same time avoid high phosphorus levels which helps prevent mineral bone disease in dialysis patients.
