Event description

Description

Dale A. Bohrer was raised on a farm just south of Zenda Kansas. He was known by several in and around Harper and Kingman counties. He was a farmer, an avid hunter, a son, a brother, a father and a grandfather. He built Chief steel buildings for many local farmers, and helped repair the Anthony Downs prior to the annual races.

In September of 2008, an MRI revealed 2 brain tumors, one on each temporal lobe of his brain. Two days later he had surgery to remove the tumors. Test later showed that the tumors were Glioblastomia, a very rare and extremely aggressive brain cancer. The following weeks brought chemo and radiation treatments. Six weeks into his chemo treatments, just hours after having received a treatment, Dale went out deer hunting with some of his family. He came home that day with a 10 point buck. He tried hard to keep his treatments from affecting his life. He was blessed in that he did not suffer from some of the side effects of his treatments. He continued to do the things that he loved up until his health got in his way.

In February 2009, Dale’s family learned that the tumors were back, and larger than before. Over the next several weeks, they watched as his health declined and doctor’s said there was nothing else they could do. On March 10, 2009 Dale lost his battle with Glioblastomia. He was only 52 years old. After Dale’s death the family set up a memorial with the National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS). In the following months, Dale’s children looked for other ways to support NBTS, and found there were limited events throughout the Mid-West. Their determination to keep other families from watching the pain and struggle their father endured has led to the birth of the Dale A. Bohrer Aim for a Cure Trap Shoot for Brain Cancer. Last years event was a HUGE turn out and plan for it to be even bigger this year! There will be prize shoots, a trap shoot with cash prizes for the top 3 shooters, 5 Man Flurry team shoot with a cash payout to the top team, and knockout!
