November 29th, 1947- 70 Years Later:
The UN Recognition of a Jewish State and Human Rights

Sephardi Voices together with the University of Miami, Department of International Studies, Departments of Religious Studies and Political Science, and the Consulate General of Israel in Miami, is excited to announce an upcoming conference commemorating the 70th anniversary of the UN recognition of the Partition Plan for Israel and discussing its implications from a human rights perspective.

Conference Speakers:

Daniel Pipes
Pipes is an American historian and commentator. He is the president of the Middle East Forum and
publisher of its Middle East Quarterly Journal. A scholar on American foreign policy, the Middle East
and Muslim history, he has participated in many ongoing international discussions on the subject.
Several sources have called him “one of the most authoritative commentators on the Middle East”.
Carole Basri
Basri is a Jewish American filmmaker and lawyer of Iraqi Jewish descent. Her productions focus on
the history of the Jews in Iraq as she documents her ancestral roots. She is an avid advocate for the
rights of displaced refugees.
