Event description

Description

Please join us in Renningen for the 6th InnerSource Commons Summit. The Summit is the opportunity to share your experiences with InnerSource, to learn from others, who are on the journey of InnerSource adoption, get help with your challenges, and, most of all, network. You will find the InnerSource Commons an excellent community of likeminded people, all of whom are passionate about making InnerSource a success in their respective organizations. We are looking forward to welcome you in Renningen!

What is InnerSource?

InnerSource takes the lessons learned from developing open source software and applies them to the way companies develop software internally. As developers have become accustomed to working on world class open source software, there is a strong desire to bring those practices back inside the firewall and apply them to software that companies may be reluctant to release. For companies building mostly closed source software, InnerSource can be a great tool to help break down silos, encourage internal collaboration, accelerate new engineer on-boarding, and identify opportunities to contribute software back to the open source world.

What is the InnerSource Commons?

The InnerSource Commons (ISC) is an organization that exists to establish a body of knowledge and to educate individuals, commercial and non-profit organizations, research centers and other institutions about the successful adoption of InnerSource best practices. The ISC helps to build collaborative environments and opportunities for knowledge and experience exchange, finding best practices, building standards and tooling, producing educational materials, and fostering research to advance the understanding, adoption, and practice of InnerSource. It enables knowledge exchange among people using InnerSource (under the Chatham House Rule), creation and review of InnerSource patterns, and the open exchange of ideas.

Who are our speakers?

We have great keynote speakers on board:

- Dr. Stefan Ferber (CEO Bosch Software Innovations): Teaching Old Dogs new Tricks
- Prof. Dr. Dirk Riehle (FAU Erlangen): Ten years of inner source case studies and our conclusions
- Lauri Apple (Workday): Building Trust with Intentional Relationship Design
- Karsten Gerloff (Siemens): Committing (to) change: The Siemens Software Management System

We are also welcoming inspiring speakers from Amdocs, BBVH, Bitergia, Computer Associates, Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen, GitHub, PayPal, Microsoft, Nike, Nokia, Robert Bosch and Samsung.

To learn more about our speakers and our schedule, please visit our ISC event page.

Who should attend?

The InnerSource Common Summits welcomes software professionals at all levels, from executive level manager to software developer. The program targets software development managers and executive managers in particular because adopting InnerSource requires significant efforts to make changes in the organization—whether these are implemented top-down or bottom-up. If you or your organization is adopting, or considering adopting, InnerSource, then attending the InnerSource Summit is the best thing you can do.
