Today, the Lady Lex sits silently on the shores of Corpus Christi Bay. In the Pacific campaign of World War II, she was anything but silent. The Japanese nicknamed her "The Blue Ghost" because they reported her sunk and destroyed on three different occasions-just to have her reappear during battles. Kamikazes slammed into her towers and torpedoes exploded in her hull, but she kept fighting. Hundreds of sailors lost their lives on this great ship, and it is fitting that now she floats in all her glory as a museum to remind us all of the sacrifices that were given aboard. With such violent and heroic history comes obvious rumors of hauntings, but do not discount these stories as old sea tales. Guests and employees alike have experienced the sightings of officers and seamen from long ago still roaming the decks and vast belly of the ship. Voices are heard, objects have known to be moved, and apparitions appear. We did an episode of Ghost Lab during Season 1 entitled "The Blue Ghost" where we were able to capture a voice from the boiler room that stated "I'm burning in the Lex." This is our 6th annual event at the Lex, and this is one that everyone looks forward to.
