Description

OVERVIEW

While a basic understanding of transplantation go back to the early days of transplantation, rapid changes in family and community structure, communication technology, population aging and ease of travel across the world have disrupted existing paradigms. Moreover, new evidence has shed light on the role of preventive measures established for the general population in the care of transplant candidates and recipients. It is, therefore, imperative for both professionals and the public to understand the gap between existing practice and emerging evidence in public health aspects of transplantation.

  • impact of obesity on outcomes in transplant candidates, recipients and live donors

  • identification of appropriate cancer screening tests of in the pre & post-transplant period

  • identification of possible obesity related post-transplant complications

  • list preventive measures to be utilized by transplant recipients when traveling

  • using best practices during the pre-transplant period that can help identify high risk social situations
