Purpose: The conference will provide practitioners with the most recent advances and information that will enhance knowledge, skills and performance in the evaluation and treatment of neurological disorders.

Objectives:

  • Distinguish the clinical manifestations, specific tests and evaluation of the patient presenting with weakness
  • Describe pathophysiologic mechanisms of acute stroke and discuss new interventional treatments
  • Discuss the guidelines for the prevention of stroke and provide comprehensive and evidence-based recommendations in stroke prevention
  • Analyze emerging research and technical advances on the pathogenesis and treatment of immune mediated neurological disorders including multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Discuss the latest information regarding the pharmacologic treatment of Parkinson’s Disease
  • Discuss, question and examine key developments and current controversies regarding the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders
  • Examine the new classification of seizures and how separating seizures into different types helps guide further testing, treatment, and prognosis of epilepsy
  • Define the diagnostic criteria for migraine headaches and current recommendations for management and treatment options
  • Review evidence-based interventions that improve quality of life for individuals with dementia and describe innovative ongoing clinical trials designed to improve or maintain quality of life for individuals with mild to moderate memory problems
  • Describe the clinical manifestations and diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders and how neurological rehabilitation can improve function and well-being of patients with disorders of the nervous system
  • Identify the latest neuroscientific breakthroughs and advances in understanding the human mind and brain

Pharmacy
Creighton University Health Sciences Continuing Education (HSCE) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education (CPE). The 6th Annual Neurology Update for Primary Care is accredited for 7.0 hours for completion of all CE Sessions on November 10, 2017. The 6th Annual Neurology Update for Primary Care is a knowledge-based activity.

AAFP
Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Determination of credit is pending.

EMS
Educational hours for all levels of EMS Personnel have been applied for through Creighton University and are pending.

Physical Therapy
This course is approved for .7 Continuing Education Units (corresponding to 7 contact hours) by the Continuing Education Committee of the Nebraska Chapter, American Physical Therapy Association.

 

Occupational Therapy
The Board of Occupational Therapy Practice does not pre-approve continuing education course offerings, but will accept a continuing education activity when they are planned and conducted for occupational therapists and the continuing education activity relates to the practice of occupational therapy. Each professional is responsible for his or her own certification.

Speech Pathology
The Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology does not pre-approve continuing education programs but will accept as continuing education for renewal, continuing education programs specified in 172 NAC 23-004.01C. It is the licensee’s responsibility to attend or participate in continuing education activities which meet the guidelines pursuant to 172 NAC 23-004.01C.
