Description

The 6th Annual National Pacific Island Violence Prevention Conference will be hosted in Salt Lake City April 11-13, 2019 by Pacific Island Knowledge 2 Action Resources (PIK2AR). 2019's theme is "Empowerment is Healing" In partnership with the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center. The Conference alternates each year with the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center Of Burlingame, California.

Please join us for 2.5 educational days of Violence Prevention, Intervention and Healing using History, Heritage and Cultural norms. Engage in discussions of the impact culture plays in Preventing Violence, Intervention and in Healing from Violence in the Pacific Island Community living in America.

This Conference is for Service Providers as well for Connection, Education and Resources that work with Pacific Islanders and other Ethnic Communities of Color. CEU Credits are earned.

Thursday evening starts with a workshop from Dr Val Kalei Kanuha, Assistant Dean of Field Education, University of Washington School of Social Work.

Friday is a packed day of culturally relevent education. Keynote Speaker Cultural Expert Etwini Jones from New Zealand, with panel from SLC Police Chief, West Valley Police Chief, San Mateo County Officers and other speaking about Community Policing and just a few of the great opportunities you will have to learn, engage and participate.

Friday evening will be the film screening of "Making of Good Men" with Q&A with ex All Black and documentary subject Norm Hewitt.

Saturday is packed again with a community focus. Included in a powerful line up is a Pacific Island Religious Leaders panel to discuss how violence is effecting congragations, how they are addressing the issue and what resources and support they need.

It Takes a Village and together we CAN Eliminate and heal from Violence while practicing healthy Pacific Island Heritages!.
